The Brave and the Free

As many people know, the world is amazingly small and in our line of business even more so. Any questionable act committed by a company can substantially tarnish its image but there are places in this world where nobody gives a damn about such perspectives (which to me just highlights how far those outsourcing sweatshops are from the high-tech world where the struggle is mostly about good people).

Gossips started flowing and I hope this will help good people avoid well-known pitfalls. There is some irony in all this court drama - they have money to squander on law suits but not enough to arrange direct deposits for their employees. On the other hand I am fairly confident that the company in question will be able to find new slaves regardless. It looks like a fairly stable business model - find people who have little to lose in the Land of Bad Things, bring them here and threaten them all the way through. If they cannot find a better bodyshop they are in for a few really nasty years but there are always people starting from such a low level that they have virtually no choice.

What probably hurts me most is the fact that it was so easy to deceive me. In a sense, it is like a mental rape - you are physically fine but you feel so violated that no amount of soap can cleanse you from the handshakes you exchanged with them once upon a time. I hope their karma will get them before their victims do.

The lesson: beg steal or borrow but find someone who actually works for your bodyshop of choice. Without some insight into the company you may complicate your life more than you would expect. And rest assured, there are normal and even good people among bodyshops so search and you shall find.

And cheer up the guy who fell a prey to their scam but had enough courage to find his way out. In my opinion he passed his freedom exam and deserves this country.
